Game Recap

In the season opener the Wildcat offense came out on a roll. After a great defensive stand Aaron Young handed off to Joe Riley for a three yard touchdown run. Later in the first the Wildcat defense held their ground giving the offense another short field. The Wildcats would capitalize with a once in a lifetime two yard touchdown reception for offensive lineman Tristan Largent after a tipped ball. The senior jumped above three defensive players to pull it in and give his team a 13-0 lead.

The second and third quarters became a defensive battle aided by multiple Verona penalties that stalled or ended drives. The Wildcats continued to hold their own as well. Junior middle linebacker Dylan Bourne and senior defensive end Jaylin Thompson lead a defense that rarely allowed Parker on their side of the fifty yard line.

In the fourth the Wildcats once again found some life offensively when their defense shut down the Parker offense and gave them a short field. On a third and seven Aaron Young found Jaden King for Verona’s third and final touchdown of the game. To close out the spectacular defensive performance senior safety Jake Walton jumped a Parker route for an interception that ended a potential scoring drive for the Vikings.

Tonight was clearly the first game for both teams that have plenty of room to grow. Next week Verona travels to Beloit for their first road game of the year.
